Around €50 million investment in the largest paving and flagstone factory in South-East Europe

Suceava, May 28, 2024

Symmetrica, the local market leader in vibropressed pavers and kerbs and the largest local manufacturer, has grown steadily and organically in its 30 years of activity, reaching national coverage through its ten production units. In its anniversary year, the company announced an investment of almost €50 million in the largest concrete paving and slabs plant in its portfolio and in South-East Europe, the project being a key pillar in supporting its regional development. Cumulatively, Symmetrica's investments in its 30 years of activity exceed €135 million, of which €110 million in its nine paving and precast concrete plants and €25 million in its industrial equipment plant.

"Symmetrica is a Romanian entrepreneurial Romanian business that started its journey 30 years ago, becoming in all this time a success story and a reference in the local building materials industry. Through a strategy focused on development and innovation, backed by total investments of over 135 million euro, we have gradually increased our production capacity and expanded our geographical coverage, and are now able to contract a varied portfolio of projects throughout the country", said Sebastian Bobu, Symmetrica's CEO.

The company was established in 1994, having as its main activity the production and commercialization of prefabricated concrete elements (slabs) for construction. In 1999 the first own factory was opened in Verești, jud. Suceava, whose production capacity was expanded five years later.

Between 2010 and 2012, the company builds four other factories in Podu Iloaiei, jud. Iași (2010), Bolintin Vale - Giurgiu (2011), Prejmer - Brașov and Cociu - Bistrița-Năsăud (2012), and in 2015, the Symmetrica brand undergoes an extensive repositioning process. The expansion is continued in 2018, when Symmetrica takes over the Somaco Holding factory in Doaga, jud. Vrancea, and invests in developing production capacity. The network is subsequently completed with three more factories in Zimandu Nou - Arad (2021), Solca - Suceava (2022) and Ovidiu - Constanța (2023).

The activity of the nine paving and precast concrete products factories is organically supported and complemented by the activity of the industrial equipment factory Symmetrica Tech, which started its activity in 2015 in Verești, Suceava County. The activity of Symmetrica Tech factory is the design, production and processing of metal parts for industrial equipment in various fields such as automotive, naval and aeronautical, as well as construction materials industry.

The investments made have led to a steady increase in sales, with the company's turnover over the last ten years growing consistently, almost fourfold, from 68.1 million lei (€15.4 million) in 2013 to 260 million lei (€52.5 million) last year.

"Our development projects were also aimed at diversifying the portfolio, while integrating the most modern technologies in the manufacturing process, in order to ensure sustainable, energy-efficient and high quality production, according to current market standards", added the company representative.

In line with current sustainability trends, the Sucevean manufacturer announced last spring an investment program to develop photovoltaic panel parks in the locations of its factories. This came as a natural step in the company's development, as the areas purchased for the construction of the factories were designed from the outset to accommodate the installation of such green energy production systems.

Another key pillar in Symmetrica's strategy has been to constantly reinvent itself to adapt to customer demands, whether it has been product quality, innovative properties or design. In the fall of 2023, the company announced the launch of new premium collections in the Symmetrica Select range, aiming to increase sales in the residential segment.

"Our achievements are the result of the hard work and dedication of an extraordinary team, currently numbering around 500 colleagues. We are a dedicated and close-knit community, with each employee making a significant contribution at every stage of our journey," said Sebastian Bobu.

From national leader to regional player
In 2024, the year in which it celebrates three decades of activity, the company confirmed its ambition to increase its regional footprint, announcing that it is expanding with a new production unit, the largest in its portfolio and the largest in the South-East European region, with an investment amounting to approximately 50 million euros. The future factory will be built in Bolintin Vale, jud. Giurgiu, and will take over the production of the unit that Symmetrica has had in that location since 2011.

"Made at an anniversary moment, this investment once again underlines our ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainable development. The new plant will play a key role in diversifying our portfolio, bringing to the market innovative products with unique specifications, which we aim to promote both locally and through exports to foreign markets," said Symmetrica's CEO.

Over 70% of the pavers market is dominated by local players, with Symmetrica leading both in terms of volumes and geographical coverage.

Of the total market, approx. 40% of product volumes are directed to infrastructure projects, while 25% go to logistics and industrial projects. The residential segment, including DIY and building material stores, accounts for 35% of total sales.

Throughout its 30 years of activity, Symmetrica has been the reliable partner for a variety of infrastructure projects in Romania, from landscaping public spaces (squares, parks, public gardens) to the realization of pedestrian and vehicular access roads.

Among the important infrastructure projects contracted in recent years are the development of Independence Square in Iasi, the modernization of the Republic Square and the old town center of Mangalia, the construction of Ovidius Park in Constanța, the redevelopment of the Central Park in Năvodari or the inauguration of the new Imum Park in Medgidia.
